How Does Medicare Work?

Medicare is the federal health insurance program that was developed to provide benefits to American citizens and permanent legal residents (five years or more) aged 65+ or who have a qualifying illness or disability. While many seniors are automatically enrolled into Original Medicare, Part A and Part B, when they become eligible, others will need to manually enroll into Medicare. Medicare Part A is hospital insurance while Medicare Part B is medical insurance. Availability and costs of Medicare plan options can vary greatly from one insurance company to another, and from one geographic area to another.
